Cop shot, killed during fight outside house
A police officer was shot and killed during an altercation outside his Chaguanas home on Friday.
Special Reserve Police officer Julien Emmanuel, 56, was shot to the chest, and died at hospital.
Police were told that at around 6 p.m. Emmanuel had an altercation with a man from his neighbourhood at Edinburgh 500.
Emmanuel and the man fought in the street, and the man grabbed the officer's firearm.
Police were told that the gun discharged during the struggle, and Emmanuel was struck to the chest.
The man ran off with the firearm, police were told.
Emmanuel was taken to the Chaguanas District Facility where he died.
Officers of Chaguanas CID, Central Division Task Force and Homicide Region III responded.
A man later surrendered to Central Division police in connection with the incident.
Police said that Emmanuel had retired from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, but recently returned to duty.
